Interesting post! I was raised by vegetarian parents as well. They had both made the switch before even meeting each other and have remained so since (I think they are both about to hit their 40 year mark). I did experiment with eating meat in college but until this last year (I'm 32), I've remained vegetarian. I'm exploring the huge quantity of local, sustainable meat here in Austin. During bad pregnancy morning sickness, I couldn't stomach any vegetarian protein so I tried meat and found it to be agreeable. It's an interesting adventure - and I'm the opposite of you - I will only cook meat at home and can't eat it out. I have to speak to the farmer directly first!

@Aneelee Glad to know that we weren't alone! My worst meat trickery was being fed pork egg rolls right before an 8 hour car ride home from Maine. Ooooh, the agony.
@Hilah Thanks, girl! You can see my discomfort in being made to wear a dress.
@Jessica Congrats on your new vegetarianism! I don't know if I'll ever have the willpower now that I know what meat tastes like. lol.
@Keri I know how you feel. I go on month long vegan kicks here and there, but it takes a serious commitment to keep it up. That soup sounds pretty good!
@Margaret Christine Yes! Some of my favorite vegetarian dishes are Indian. Saag Paneer is probably my all time favorite.
@Moonsword I've been dying to try a chickpea burger. I am a big fan of veggie burgers that taste like veggies (homemade).

I think I could go ovo-lacto indefinitely, but I nothing more strict than that long-term. However, I do occasionally flirt with veganism just to force myself to try new things. My favorite vegetarian dish (and what I'll be cooking for dinner tonight) is simplicity itself: sweet potato leek soup. Four ingredients: veggie broth, sweet potatoes, leeks, olive oil.
