About Mary Makes Good

Mary Makes Good is a creative lifestyle blog with a focus on natural living, family, and womanhood. MMG regularly features whole food recipes, simple craft projects, natural beauty tutorials, and stories from the life of a busy working mama. Let’s make something good.

About Mary Helen

My name is Mary Helen McNally*, and I like to make things.

What kinds of things? Well, all kinds really. Let’s start with dinner. I am a professionally trained cook with a passion for healthy cooking, world cuisine, and gourmet ice cream. I have worked as a cook, a culinary instructor, a cookbook author, and food stylist. I’ve even won a few cooking competitions.

In 2015 I published my first book, The Natural Beauty Solution, a step-by-step guide to replacing commercial beauty products with natural handmade alternatives. My second book, The Handmade Mama, is a collection of healthy recipes, natural skin care tutorials, and simple sewing projects to help support mama through pregnancy and postpartum and help out during baby’s first year.

I also love making art – maybe even more than food.

These days I make my living as a working artist (I make pottery and clay sculptures under the name Pots de Femme), running a mini art studio called ATX Kiln Club, working as a freelance food stylist, and as a creative guide at Figment Creative Labs. All of this mad art making goes on in Austin, Texas, where I live with my two brilliant and unique children. Fun fact: all three of us are on the spectrum.
