Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for your story! I wonder if the big red headed boy could have been my Great Uncle Roy? He did have a brother named Dave. I can only guess that my Grandmothers brothers and sisters spent a lot of time at the restaurant while they were growing up.
Thank you so much for sharing your memories with me. I love imagining what it must have been like to spend time at these places that shaped our familys history.

When I was very small a big boy with red hair plucked me up & sat me on his 2 wheel bike getting a good grip on what I had on in the back to make sure I stayed there. Then he put his other hand on the handle bars & took me for a short ride. While he did so he taught me how to spell my first word IS. After wards I ran back to the sand pile to play with his little brother David. I lived at 45 across the street & ate in the restaurant. The waiters stacked phone books on chairs until the child properly fit when pushed to the table. We did not go to #8 grade school together so I think they went to Iona in New Rochelle. The park we played in had the Bronx River which was diverted to create land for Lawrence Hospital expansion. I am now 80 and a half.

Dear Mary Helen,
I really like your blog! It is fun to see the pictures of the old restaurant. How are you? It is fun to see the accomplishments of my ancestor.
