Food Weekend

324170_235074736544318_174529819265477_740436_655335740_o I'm coming up on a very busy food related weekend which starts off tomorrow at Austin Bakes for Bastrop.  The amazing Austin Gastronomist is the master mind behind this wonderful fundraiser.  I'm looking forward to spending the day with a whole bunch of bloggers, eaters, and bakers, while raising funds to help out our neighbors in Bastrop.  The wildfires down there claimed over 1500 homes!  1500 homes in one town.  You can imagine the devestation that could cause to a community.  Earlier in the year, Austin Bakes organized a Bake Sale for Japan.  That weekend we raised over 11,000 dollars for Tsunami relief.

  • For the bake sale, I'll be whipping up a batch of flourless Peanut Butter Cookies. Yum!
  • You can find me outside of The Flying Saucer, located in The Triangle in Central Austin off of North Lamar.
  • Another blogger you would really like will be at my sale location.  Hilah, of Hilah Cooking will be peddling some scones for Bastrop.

On Sunday, I'll be heading over to The Capitol for The Rally for Real Food!  It's a rare thing when an opportunity comes along for you to bitch and moan and wave signs about your opinions in public.  If you are passionate about seeing GMO foods fairly labeled come on down and open your big mouth about it.

 RightToKnow-340

There are plenty of folks who wouldn't mind eating GMO foods or couldn't care less about this issue, but others would avoid it if they could.  Labeling will allow consumers to choose for themselves.  Though it may not seem like much to ask, we've been fighting this fight for over a decade.  It's time to get GMO foods labeled once and for all.  Come down and show your support!

  • Read more about the rally's mission at Millions Against Monsanto
  • Watch a free streaming copy of The Future of Food, a wonderful documentary on the effects of GMO foods on American health and agriculture
  • If you can't join us in Austin this Sunday, look for activities in your area during World Food Days, October 15 and 16
