I have to take the time to post about David Chang's new food magazine, Lucky Peach. I'm not affiliated with these cats or anything(but a gal can dream), I just can't put the damn thing down. First of all, as a design geek, the magazine is so well made. Thick paper, perfect binding, super inviting cover, Mama likes. The insides are packed with frame worthy illustrations that will have you flipping through the pages over and over and over, before you ever read a word.
When you get to the reading part, prepare to become conjoined twins with this magazine, especially if you have a thing for noodles. As you may know, I live and die for noodles, so this magazine is actually becoming a marital problem for me. Despite my dear husband's pleas, my bed side reading light has been working over time.
The section I am particularly obsessed with is the super in depth guide to making all things ramen. From homemade alkaline noodles to bacon dashi, every page is Heaven for a noodlephile like myself. There's also a snarky and hilarious biography of David Chang by Anthony Bourdain, in which Bourdain theorizes how foodie movies like Tampopo (one of my all time favorite movies, by the way) may have influenced the Momofuku chef into pushing the boundaries of noodles as we know them.
Lucky Peach is due to come out quarterly, and I am stumped to imagine how I could survive without a subscription. Get it, read it, and slap anyone who tries to make you turn the light out.
