Here we are, in a new year. I am always surprised by how drastically I am affected by the changing of the calendar. I mean, really, nothing has changed, yet everything feels as if it has shifted a bit. As the year ended, I took stock in my life and thanked my lucky stars for all that I had. Now that the new year has begun, I'm filled with a familiar ambition.
This is going to be the best year.
Seriously, I have a lot of joy planned for 2012. I'm going to visit some places I've never been. I'm going to get better at piano, and write about a million more songs. I'm going to treat this old body of mine like a temple, in preparation for its most important job yet. In short, I'm planning to live it up in 2012.
For starters, I began my 21 day cleanse yesterday. Here's a shot of yesterday's lunch.
Kale Slaw with mustard vinaigrette
Every morning I'm guzzling down a juice or smoothie. For lunch and dinner I'm supping on simple vegan meals, free of grains or processed ingredients. Next week, I'll get to include beans, lentils, and seafood. During the third week I will be gladly welcoming back grains and eggs. It will be a long road, but I am determined to see it through and start off the year with a clean slate. Lord knows I ingested enough sugar over the past two months to last all of 2012. (Well, not REALLY. Come on, now. Let's get real. There is plenty of room in 2012 for cookies and ice cream.)
2012 will also be filled with food photos, 365 of which I will be sharing at the 365 Bites Flickr Group. My very funny and talented acquaintance, Kelly, started this very yummy 365 project, inviting foodie shutterbugs to share a bite a day for the rest of the year. There is plenty of time to join, so come on by and start sharing those photos.
My very weird contribution – Kale slaw, going in.
My big resolution this year is to take the time to feel pretty more often. No more slumping around in jammy pants and messy hair. This year, I'm going to put on makeup, do my hair, and wear cute outfits. And not just when I have something important to do either. More like every day. Well, almost every day. Everyone deserves a jammy pants/messy hair day now and then, so they won't be completely off the calendar, but they will be drastically reduced!
It's the year of the dragon, the eyeliner wearing, kale eating she-dragon.
