Halloween is the best, isn't it? It's a time for pretending to be someone totally freaky or enchantingly fabulous, get high on sugar, and ride out the night maniacally carving perfectly good pumpkins until they look as freaky as you do. That's my kind of party.
Speaking of parties, Scott and I kicked off what I hope will be an annual tradition this past Friday. We invited all of our friends over for a Halloween Carve-a-thon. The house was packed with pumpkins. Guts were strewn this way and that. Candy was eaten. Beer was drunk. Good times. My favorite part of the night was seeing all of the jack-o-lanterns lit up on our front walkway. As the were finished they were taken outside and lit. By the end of the night we had well over a dozen really cool pumpkins outside.
The other highlight of this year's Halloween was our first lawn display! My lil' sis, Caity, her honey, James, and my hubby, Scott, worked together over the last 2 weeks to create our own little horror movie scene on the front lawn.
To be totally honest, this is exactly the kind of thing I always dreamed of doing as a homeowner. The spaceship is paper mache, with an ikea lightbulb hanging down its middle to illuminate the glitter skeleton. Scott made the tanks out of produce cartons, and James made the buildings by spray painting flat-pack ikea furniture boxes.
We're hoping to re-use all of this next year, when we'll add on a second layer of madness! What will we do next? Rumor has it that Godzilla might be coming to town.
