A perfect lesson from marty . I think One of the best sandwiches I ever had in Europe was nothing but veggies (tomato, cucumber, shredded carrots, egg plant) with a little olive oil. My all time favorite remains plain tomato-no mayo; otherwise, there is always peanut butter and jelly.

I know! It's some ridiculous crap, one of those situations where common sense ought to overcome corporate policy, yet does not. The pickle thing gets me fuming every time, so you're not alone!

It makes me feel good that someone gave you this same bullshit because even though I knew it was a corporate policy it seemed like this girl was going out of her way to be a souless bitch. Plus black olives are one of the cheapest ingredients in the country!
I mostly think it's funny that I can still be so MAD about something so stupid that happened so long ago. It's easy to avoid them though cause their "veggie" sandwich is awful I'd rather do Taco Bell every time.

Oh my God. You just made me snort coffee out of my nose. I swear to you I have gotten in the same fight over pickles!! It's the stupidest thing in the world, especially on a VEGGIE sandwich. Hello?! You are charging me $6 for bread and lettuce! You can throw me a few extra pickles. There is actually a corporate standard for how many toppings a sandwich should have under Subway regulations. Marty and I used to look at the photos and laugh about what a shitty sandwich they would make it we actually followed them. Four tomatoes, six olives, five pickles... Ridiculous!

I could talk about my hatred of Subway for hours and it all stems from their corporate olive policy where you only are supposed to get six slices of olive - even if that is your only topping! I got into an argument in, ohhh maybe 2001, with a girl that worked there I said it was my only topping so I should get more. She said an additional 3 slices would be 50 cents or something. One thing led to another and I said I'd never be back again, and she yelled at me "your full of shit you can't give up subway" or something to that effect ('cause I lived across the street. It made me so mad that I have held that grudge this long! I would totally break my vow, though, if you were behind the counter at your magical subway.

Great story. I suspect most all foodies can trace their love to early food careers. For me, it was donuts. Worked at the local donut shop from 14 until I graduated high school. Starting every saturday and sunday at 3am was tough, but being done with work by noon was pretty awesome. I learned every single facet of the business from the world's best owner. Still love good donuts. ;)
