Rock n’ Roller

Last night Scott Bobleo and I went out to see a show at the Saxon Pub. Hayes Carll was playing, and seeing as he's one of my favorites, it seemed like a good chance to get out and take advantage of Babeleo still being an inside-baby. Though I'm determined to still have a life after Babeleo is born, I know that these kinds of evenings will be fewer, and farther between.

Not that I mind, really, at least not yet. About two years back we were living in a teeny little apartment close to downtown. We walked to the park, went out to concerts all the time, and generally lived it up. We were eating at cool new restaurants, going out with our friends several nights a week, and having a grand old time. But you know what? As wonderful as that lifestyle was, we both knew something was missing.

Fun is great, but it doesn't feed your soul the way that love does. As much as I enjoyed being a free-wheeling childless couple, I'm looking forward to being tied down to a tiny little person. Soon we'll be trading in happy hour for story time, and shows at the bar for living room jam sessions. That sounds just fine to me.

Still, it was nice to get out last night. Hayes Carll put on a great show, and the Saxon Pub was an awesome venue. This was our first visit, but I'll be keeping my eye out for shows there from now on. Saxon Pub provides a really cozy setting and the sound was great. I was also impressed by how kind and chivalrous the crowd was in regards to my Babeleo bump. People offered me seats, and the waitresses kept me supplied with water all night long. Babeleo was like a VIP.

This tells me that I should milk this whole pregnant concert thing for all its worth.

Anyway, here's a little video of Hayes Carll doing his thing. He played this song last night at our show. In his own words, it's a song about losing your woman to another… human.

By the way, Babeleo either really loved or really hated this show, because every time a song started up my womb turned into a tiny little mosh pit. I was tapping my foot, and Babeleo was kicking my insides. I never really wondered what it would be like for two people to have a party inside one body. It's pretty neat.

When I told Scott that the baby was kicking for the music he got REALLY excited.

"To the BEAT?!"

Yeah… no. But nice try, Scott.
