Austin Eats: G’raj Mahal

The gracious folks at G’raj Mahal had a whole mess of food bloggers over for happy hour last week. We got to check out their new brick and mortar restaurant while being treated to food and drinks. The new place is not far from the trailer’s home, just a short walk down Rainey Street. The space is very pretty, starting out with a quirky patio fenced off by deconstructed bicycles, and leading into a pretty pink tent, outfitted with tiny wooden couches and even tinier wooden tables.

While the space was gorgeous to behold, it was a little challenging to navigate while preggo. Those tiny tables are LOW, y’all. I had to get up and kneel on the ground in order to cut anything into pieces. I’d recommend sticking to finger food if you decide to sit in the land of pretty pink. (There are regular tables in the other areas.)

So close, yet so far.

So close, yet so far.

As for the food, I haven’t been to the trailer, so I can’t really compare how the new place stacks up to the old. In general though, I’d say that it was good. The samosas were tasty. The naan was fresh, and the curries were mild but pleasant. Personally, I like my Indian food to pack a little more punch, but I can see why G’raj Mahal is a crowd pleaser.

As always, it was delightful to get in some quality hangout time with my fellow AFBA bloggers. After happy hour a number of us trekked over to Banger’s for a more serious nosh. Poutine abounded, sausages were devoured, beer was guzzled, and cute short dogs were oggled with reckless abandon. Good times. (Sadly, noone got a free tattoo. That’s what I call a wasted opportunity.)

So as you all may or may not have noticed, I have a bun in the oven, and said bun is getting awfully close to coming out. My little lemon is now closer in size to a large squash or a pineapple. I’m planning on taking time off of work and off of blogging once little Babeleo arrives, but I’d hate to leave Mary Makes Dinner a ghost town while I’m gone.

GuestPosts

So, fellow food bloggers, I’m putting the word out for guest posts. Would you like to share a vegetarian recipe on Mary Makes Dinner? Perhaps a recipe round-up, some kitchen tips, or even an editorial? Do you have a favorite vegetarian dish or restaurant in Austin that you’d like to gush over? I’m open to all kinds of different guest posts, so do a little brainstorming, then shoot me an email. We’ll pick a date for your post to go live, sometime in late May, June or July.

I’m also accepting guest posts for my artsy, craftsy DIY blog, Mary Makes Pretty. If you’d like to share a post on crafts, photography, sewing, or pretty much anything else creative, I’d love to have your help!

Speaking of blogs, I just completed a pretty big update over on Mary Makes Good. What’s that, you ask? Only my brand spanking new blog hub. Mary Makes Good will now feature posts from all three of my blogs (Mary Makes Dinner, Mary Makes Pretty, and Mary Makes Babies) making it easy to follow all of my blog-ventures in one place. I’ll continue to update the sites individually as well, so folks who prefer can keep up with the topics that they like best.
