Make Your Own Clay & Yogurt Facial Masks – Three Ways

Clay & Yogurt Facial Masks: Simple home spa recipes for every skin type

Clay & Yogurt Facial Masks - Three Ways

One of my very favorite natural skin care ingredients is yogurt. The lactic acids present in plain yogurt can help to brighten and exfoliate your skin gently. Rather than scrubbing (and possibly scratching) your face’s delicate skin, yogurt facial masks work to sort of unglue dead skin cells – allowing them to be rinsed away!

Clay & Yogurt Facial Masks - Three Ways

If I get my way, I like using organic, whole-milk yogurt in my homemade skin care recipes. But, any plain yogurt should do. You can even use another kind of dairy ingredient like buttermilk or kefir if that’s what you have handy. Plain is best since it’s not super saturated with added sugar, but in a pinch you can even get away with using a naturally flavored yogurt in homemade yogurt facial masks.

These three yogurt facial mask recipes are super simple, and should be used right away to take advantage of freshness. Any of the following recipes can be used on any skin type to provide exfoliation and brightening, but each one brings an extra benefit for specific skin types. I’ll tell you about each one as we go.

Soothing Chamomile Yogurt Facial Mask

This super gentle mask uses anti-inflammatory German chamomile essential oil to soothe the skin, making it a great choice for dry or sensitive skin types.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons white kaolin clay
  • 2 tablespoons plain whole milk yogurt
  • 5 – 10 drops german chamomile essential oil

Exfoliating Raspberry Yogurt Facial Mask

The combination of fruit acid and lactic acid give this mask an extra boost of exfoliating power. All skin types can benefit from this mask as it isn’t overly drying or aggressive.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons rose clay or red clay
  • 2 tablespoons plain whole milk yogurt
  • 3-4 fresh raspberries
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Clarifying Charcoal Yogurt Facial Mask

Bentonite clay and activated charcoal give this recipe a whole lot of detoxifying benefits, but this combination is also far more drying than the other two yogurt facial masks shared here. This is a great choice for those with acne prone or oily skin, but can be used up to once per week by all but the most dry or sensitive skin types.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons bentonite clay
  • 2 tablespoons plain whole milk yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon activated charcoal
  • 10 drops neem oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey
