Day 27/30: Being Ridiculous
Last weekend my sister, Heather, threw a cookie making party. Scott and I showed up, ready to roll out dough, cut cookies, and decorate them on the fly. We had no idea that this part of the evening was only phase one of the evening's shenanigans.
After the cookies were finished, Heather and her fiance, Ben, passed out a couple rounds of shots. Tequila, Baileys, and Whiskey was downed in a hurry as the cookies were packed up on empty pizza boxes. Everyone started bundling up, and out the door we went.
We were going Christmas caroling, you see. There was no rehearsal, no plan, no warning for the quiet neighborhood of what was to come, just a pack of slightly drunk revelers with two cowbells and a tambourine.
Words were forgotten, porch lights were quickly turned out, and nervous people peeked through shutters as if it were a horde of zombies that stood outside, slurring the words to Jingle Bells. It wasn't all bad though, some people came outside, others sang along, gave us chocolate, and thanked us for brightening their night. We got to meet babies, pet basset hounds, and laugh till our bellies hurt.
When it hit 10:00 pm we decided to wrap things up in style. With half of our cookies still waiting to be devoured we sauntered over to Schoolhouse Pub, and seranaded the crowded bar with our ridiculous rendition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Good times.
