Our baby girl arrived on July first. She is our little rainbow baby, arriving after three miscarriages and the loss of her twin during this pregnancy. It’s hard to describe the gratitude that I feel when I pick her up and hold her in my arms. The warm, soft weight of this tiny baby seems surreal at times. I fear I will blink and she’ll disappear, like some passing daydream.
But then she opens her mouth as wide as she can and lets me know, with every inch of her little baby being, that she IS real, and she wants my attention.
Her brother is obsessed. So much so that he has been lashing out at anyone who comes too close or speaks too freely about his little sister. He is even jealous on her behalf of babies who have the audacity to be older or bigger than she is. Born just shy of 7 pounds and just a bit over a month ago, that’s pretty much everyone.
We’re working through it though, and while his angst is a bit misplaced I’m pretty sure it is typical of a four year old going through this kind of transition.
But back to the babe. We named her Sidney Leelou. The middle name was picked almost randomly after hemming and hawing over it for months. I’ll give you a high five if you can guess where it came from.
Sidney arrived three weeks early via induction, and she kept her mama on her toes right up to the last minute. You can read her birth story here, and if you are into these kinds of emotional rambling mama yarns, please feel free to follow my Mama Diary for more. That’s where I share my more personal stories, photos, and thoughts.
The other day I decided to change that space up a little bit. I decided to rename the blog Slow Mama. Mary Makes Babies was mostly about my reproductive journey – infertility, pregnancy, loss, and that kind of thing. I feel like I’m entering a different phase, a slower season if you will. While we’re still undecided on whether or not we’ll go for a third baby, right now I am content to bask in the love I’ve found in these two.
I’ll share more on my change of pace over on Slow Mama. For now, enjoy these cute baby photos and hang tight for more recipes, crafts, and skin care tutorials coming soon.
